This special semi-postal series, titled "Für den Sport 1993" (For Sport 1993), was released by the Deutsche Bundespost on February 11, 1993. As shown in the official Ersttagsblatt (6/1993) in 145798.jpg, the series highlights prominent Olympic sporting venues across Germany. Surcharges from these stamps support the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe, which provides social assistance and support for athletes in all areas of sport.
The series, designed by Joachim Rieß, features the following venues:
Olympiaschanze Garmisch-Partenkirchen (60+30 Pf): Depicts the legendary ski jumping hill that hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics. The facility saw major updates in 1950 and 1978 to maintain its status as a world-class jumping venue.
Olympiapark München (80+40 Pf): Showcases the iconic park created for the 1972 Summer Games. Notable for its "tent-style" roof architecture, the park has become a premier European event destination, hosting over 20 World and 60 German championships in the two decades following the games.
Olympiastadion Berlin (100+50 Pf): Features the historic stadium built for the 1936 Summer Olympics. Completely modernized for the 1974 World Cup at a cost of 27 million DM, it serves as a listed monument and the permanent home for the German Football Cup final.
Olympiahafen Kiel (170+80 Pf): Highlights the Olympic sailing center used for the 1972 Games. Located in Schilksee, the center accommodates roughly 3,000 sailors annually and remains one of the world's most respected sailing venues
