This commemorative issue marks the 200th anniversary of the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's most iconic landmark. Issued by the Deutsche Bundespost on January 8, 1991, the 100 Pfennig stamp features a classical view of the gate based on a historical template from the book "Alte Berliner Stiche". Designed by Antonia Graschberger, the stamp captures the gate as it appeared following its completion in 1791 by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans.
The official Ersttagsblatt documentation explains the gate's transformation from a "Peace Gate" to a powerful symbol of German unity and freedom, especially following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The collection is presented on an official collector's sheet with a first-day-of-issue postmark from Bonn, featuring a specialized silhouette of the gate and its famous Quadriga.
