This commemorative set features two influential figures from the long-running definitive series "Frauen der deutschen Geschichte" (Women in German History), issued by the Deutsche Bundespost. The collection honors Käthe Kollwitz (30 Pf), a world-renowned artist and social activist known for her moving depictions of the human condition, and Elisabet Boehm (70 Pf), the pioneering founder of the German Countrywomen's Association.
As detailed in the official Ersttagsblatt (1/1991), these stamps were released on January 8, 1991, to strengthen public awareness of the historical achievements and societal contributions of women. Both portraits were designed by Professor Gerd Aretz, with the first-day-of-issue postmark from Bonn elegantly tying the two together on this official collector's sheet.
