This commemorative issue celebrates the 750th anniversary of Hannover, the state capital of Lower Saxony. Issued by the Deutsche Bundespost on January 8, 1991, the 60 Pfennig stamp features a stylized cityscape highlighting the city's architectural evolution. The design, created by Professor Peter Steiner, includes iconic landmarks such as the Leineschloß (Leine Palace), the Marktkirche, and the New Town Hall.
As detailed in the official Ersttagsblatt documentation, the anniversary marks the date in 1241 when Duke Otto the Child confirmed the city's municipal rights. The collection is preserved with a first-day-of-issue cancellation from Bonn, featuring a specialized postmark depicting the classical facade of the Leineschloß.
