This vibrant set from the "Bilder aus Deutschland" (Pictures from Germany) series celebrates the diverse natural and cultural landscapes of the country. Released by the Deutsche Post on July 6, 1995, the collection features four unique 100-pfennig stamps designed by Prof. Heinz Schillinger.
The regions highlighted in this issue include:
Fränkische Schweiz (Franconian Switzerland): Known for its bizarre dolomite rock formations and historic villages.
Havellandschaft in Berlin: Featuring the scenic Havel river landscape, specifically noting the Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island) and its romantic castle ruins.
Oberlausitz (Upper Lusatia): A varied region in Saxony near the Polish and Czech borders, home to the Zittau Mountains which inspired artists like Caspar David Friedrich.
Sauerland: One of Germany's largest recreation areas in North Rhine-Westphalia, characterized by vast forests and rolling hills.
This official Ersttagsblatt includes a first-day-of-issue cancellation from Bonn, featuring a specialized postmark with a map of Germany. The reverse side of the sheet provides detailed geological and historical context for each of the featured regions.
