This official Ersttagsblatt (6/1989) features a semi-postal series titled "The Colorful World of the Circus" issued on April 20, 1989. These "Youth Stamps" are issued for the benefit of the "Stiftung Deutsche Jugendmarke e. V.," with the surcharges supporting measures for the welfare of German youth.
The stamps, designed by Professor Ernst Kößlinger, capture the fascination and history of the circus through four distinct motifs:
Dompteur mit Raubtiergruppe (60+30 Pf): Depicts a trainer with a group of big cats, representing the classic tradition of animal taming.
Trapezkünstler (70+30 Pf): Illustrates the daring world of acrobatics with trapezists in motion.
Jonglierende Seehunde (80+35 Pf): Features the playful side of the circus with seals juggling balls.
Jongleur (100+50 Pf): Shows a human juggler performing a balancing and tossing act.
